MINIVAP VPXpert is the 3rd generation vapour pressure tester for the automatic determination of the vapour pressure of gasoline, gasoline oxygenate blends and crude oil for all vapour pressure standards.

Incorporating the Grabner triple expansion method and the US EPA reference method for the determination of vapour pressure, the instrument is designed for significantly improved precision, reliability and performance.

SAMPLING PRO™ Valve Design

While more and more Ethanol is added into fuels, the risk of cross contamination between tests of various samples increases. Testing E85 prior to regular base fuels can affect vapour pressure measurement results of the base fuels. The MINIVAP VPXpert incorporates Sampling Pro™ technology, a high quality valve design, which minimizes the risk of cross contamination between different sample types.

Vapour Pressure of Gasoline – The Latest Mini-Method

ASTM D6378 is the “Triple Expansion Method” with determination of the dissolved air in the sample. It was developed by GRABNER INSTRUMENTS and replaces ASTM D5191. Cooling and air saturation is NOT required!

Vapour Pressure of Crude Oil – The Official method

ASTM D6377 is the new “Single-Expansion Method” for vapour pressure of Crude Oil developed by GRABNER INSTRUMENTS. The pressurised sample is transferred into the measuring chamber and expanded to the final volume by the built-in piston. The precision of this method is better than the classical ASTM method of D323 (ASTM correlation formula is available). Due to the outstanding measuring principle of MINIVAP, the sample preparation prior to the measurement is not necessary.

You save expensive labor time with better precision and possible operator bias is eliminated.

V/L-RATIO (ASTM D5188) – The Fastest Method

The MINIVAP VPXpert determines ASTM D5188 V/L ratio of non-viscous liquids including hydrocarbons like gasoline, solvents and other highly volatile compounds over a wide temperature range. The instrument performs fully automatically, providing results in minutes. No additional equipment is required.

Vapour Pressure of LPG up to 1000 kPa (ASTM D6897)

ASTM D6897 is the method of choice for easy, quick and accurate measurement of liquefied petroleum gas and replaces the manual bomb method ASTM D1267. ASTM D6897 yields results in excellent correlation with ASTM D1267, but with a highly improved precision. The new method offers full automation for LPG measurements, eliminates manual operation and cleaning and minimises sample waste. MINIVAP VPXpert is able to measure LPG up to 1000 kPa.

Piston Based Technique

The unique measuring principle with the integrated piston for automatic sample introduction and expansion offers high accuracy, easy operation and eliminates the use of a vacuum pump.

DVPE of Gasoline

ASTM D5191 is the standard “Mini-Method” and required only 1 mL of sample, measured against vacuum and a correlation formula for the calculation of the DVP. Sample preparation, including cooling of the sample to 0°C (32°F) and triple air saturation prior to the measurement is required.

Principle

The sample is contained in a 10 mL syringe (3) or in a sample container for direct sampling. The automatic sample introduction and the volume adjustments are made by a piston with an integrated pressure transducer (1). The measuring chamber (2) with a total volume of 5 mL is automatically rinsed and filled with 1 mL for the measuring process. After closing the valve (4) driven by the valve motor (5), the volume expansion to 5 mL (with the sample under vacuum condition) is obtained by a further stroke of the piston. The temperature of the measuring cell is controlled with a high-power thermoelectric module (6) and measured with a precision Platinum RTD sensor (7). After the sample introduction and the volume expansion, the test temperature is adjusted. After the equilibrium time, the measurement of the dissolved air is completed. Test results of DVPE, ASVP, Pgas and Pabs are displayed and printed.
